Athens of The North's latest deep dive into electronic music's lesser-known fringes takes us to Michigan in the mid 1990s, and the largely unknown work of then computing student Jeff Sova - a bedroom musician who combined a new-found love for Detroit techno and house culture with a passion for Brian Eno, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode and New Order. Utilising a blend of unusual synths and drum machines (as opposed to those most associated with Motor City dance music culture), Sova created music shot through with warmth, atmosphere and emotion. As this trawl through his archives proves, it's music for the head and heart as much as the feet - rhythmic instrumental soundscapes straight out of the top drawer.
