On the label's latest deep dive, Miles Away tells the story of Boo Frazier's Cheri Records, a tiny New Jersey imprint whose slim catalogue (remarkably, there were only ever 11 records released between 1972 and 1984) brilliantly fused gospel and the then dominant dancefloor sound of disco. What Cheri offered was emotionally and spiritually enriching vocals and infectious, life-affirming music: a thrilling combination Highlights come and thick and fast throughout, from the rising disco joy of Rare Pleasure's 'Let Me Down Easy' (famously sampled by David Morales in the 1990s) and the gritty, high-octane disco-funk of The Family Tree's 'As' (a genuinely killer Stevie Wonder cover), to the strong-drenched, percussion rich 'Boogie People' by Brooklyn People, and the jazzy gospel-disco of The Julius Brockington Ensemble ('Let The Holy Spirit').
