Wicked new album from producer du jour, Flying Lotus! Deep, hi-tech, hip hop beatsmithery of the highest order! The music Lotus makes has been recently heralded as 'wonky' in parts of the press, but to it's credit Lotus' debut is more impressive and intuitively broader and musical than that. This is a deep, soulful, intricate album, mixed to perfection where glints of detail are unearthed on ever listen, floating hallucinatory clouds and exotic percussion lending a different angle on each track. It's not an entirely instrumental album either, there are three fantastic vocal tracks, featuring Laura Darlington, Gonja Sufi and Dolly, which show off his ability to write woozy but catchy songs, which mix the futuristic and the classic very neatly. This album is on gorgeous glossy gatefold double vinyl or a rather nice cd pack with a booklet. Recommended!
