On the latest Dub-Stuy riddim release, Von D meets Chukki Star, Chezidek, and Jah Mason in a nod to early 2000s conscious dancehall
French producer Von D returns to Dub-Stuy after a four-year hiatus, this time contributing to the label’s acclaimed one-riddim series with Saga Riddim. Delving deeply into his reggae side, Von D offers a standout release, teaming up with legendary vocalists Chukki Star, Chezidek, and Jah Mason.
Building upon his 2019 single "Dancehall Saga", Von D breathes new life into the track: the revamped instrumental introduces a more pronounced skank and live instruments, enhancing the driving bass. The result is a heavy yet dynamic sound, reminiscent of the Xterminator label and the Greensleeve one-riddim albums of the early 2000s.
Taking vocal turns on the powerful riddim is a trio of veterans with deep ties to the conscious dancehall movement. Chukki Star commands attention with "Mr. Fighter", a rallying cry against the system. Chezidek offers a more emotive touch with "Blind Love", while Jah Mason uplifts the youth with "The Motive". As always, the release includes the instrumental version, this time with a horn-filled dub twist from Von D.
With high-caliber vocal performances, perfectly crafted mixes by Von D, and mastering by Joker for that extra punch, Saga Riddim is poised to set the dancefloor ablaze.
