This compilation is a selection from the 35,000 field recordings made between the 1920s and 1970s by ethnomusicologist Hugh Tracey. It’s song themes span from African separatist hymns to songs warning against European beer. There’s even a song about a donkey complaining it wants wages instead of maize!
