Dance music is supposed to be a journey, that's a given. On the fourth instalment of Birmingham-based producer Mick Harris' Culvert Dub Sessions series, and the first to land on wax, that rule of thumb sounds front and centre, and made to be heard emanating from a Dolby Atmos-equivalent speaker stack. There's a superior studio quality to everything here, tracks envelop and wrap around you, growing and expanding in ways that eventually make it impossible to see anything beyond these dun techno waves. It's beautiful, in a cold kind of way, reaffirming, if ever there was any doubt, that the largest city in England's Midlands remains amongst the world's foremost puritanical strongholds of machine music.
