Yes! This is the film from which the soundtrack was released by Grant Green on Blue Note.

Denied a job because of his colour, Johnny Johnson joins a radical civil rights group and begins taking matters into his own hands. This eventually leads to a bloody and violent confrontation with the police. The story is told in a series of flashbacks, set against the confrontation.

The politics are in the right place - the radicalism is explained as bigoted white Americans grind down Johnson and, whilst not celebrating his actions, nor does it criticise.

Some pretty wack acting at the start but still leaves a seriously funky soundtrack and some groovy gear.
