Suzanne Ciani's alter ego, Steve, is one of the more weird and wonderful side projects in electronic music, and now the good people at Dark Entries bring it back into the light. Using an Eventide H949 harmonizer to pitch-shift her voice, Ciani created "Steve", a gay male persona she adopted for a run of rather delirious collaborations. Highlights include 'Steve Goes to a Party' with Tangerine Dream's Peter Baumann, the proto-house gospel-tinged 'Steve Saves the World,' and the tender 'Steve Happy Birthday Wishes' for Ciani's then-boyfriend. Full of still fresh techno-poptimist spirit and with a birthday card featuring liner notes from Ciani herself, this is a magically odd piece of avant-garde history.
