When Nagamatzu hit pause in 1991, Stephen Jarvis didn't stop; he simply changed the name, pulling Pure Motorised Instinct from a line in George Romero's Dawn of the Dead and pushing the industrial spirit into stranger, more personal territory. At Last I'm Leaving the Earth collects nine tracks from the two cassette albums that followed and presses them to wax for the first time, together with a trio of bonus tracks. Operating somewhere between ominous and moody and more hopeful, and between the intense and the more sleepy claustrophobic, Jarvis's digital synths become dusty, aged affairs with plenty of processing and reverb-drenched drums, giving an infinite quality to the low ends. From vapourwave to ambient to escapist soundscaping, this is a mental movie of the highest order.
