New York's WRVR-FM captured a treasured broadcast by Gil-Scott Heron. His appearance alongside Brian Jackson and the Midnight Band at the Village gate in 1976 has since garnered widespread affection and admiration amongst collectors, fans and critics alike. This monumental performance comprised of only six songs, but the energy and spirit of that performance evoked acute political and spiritual awareness, rampaging through global and local injustices with humility and conscience firmly intact.

"In February 2010, the late, legendary musician, poet and author Gil Scott-Heron released his thirteenth, and last, studio album. First conceptualised in 2005, and ultimately produced by XL Recordings head Richard Russell during New York recording sessions that commenced in January 2008, 'I’m New Here' was Scott-Heron’s first album in thirteen years and found him sounding as vital, boundary-pushing and insightful as ever before. XL Recordings release a limited-edition, expanded version of the album on its 10th anniversary. In addition to the original album, the 'I'm New Here 10th Anniversary Edition' features two unreleased tracks - a cover of Richie Havens’ 'Handsome Johnny’ and a previously unheard Scott-Heron song 'King Henry IV’ - as well as a selection of other recordings from the original I’m New Here sessions that were only previously available on a rare, vinyl only deluxe version of the LP."

Gil Scott-HeronThe Revolution Begins: The Flying Dutchman MastersBGP

The three albums Gil Scott-Heron recorded for Bob Thiele’s Flying Dutchman label are some of the most important in the history of black music. They show a multi-talented artist reaching maturity with his first recorded efforts. "The Revolution Begins” gathers together every piece of music released by Gil on Flying Dutchman, including a track recorded with Bernard “Pretty” Purdie which has never been previously reissued. All remastered from the original master tapes, bringing you sound that’s better than you’ll ever have heard and new clarity to Gil’s words and the musical performances. BGP have additionally assembled an alternate version of Gil's third album, "Free Will", based on access to the original recordings.

          Charles EarlandCharles III (1973)Prestige

Featuring Lee Morgan, Virgil Jones, Billy Cobham, Billy Harper, Maynard Parker, Garnett Brown and more. Between jazz and soul, keyboardist Charles Earland was one of the most succesfull artists on labels like Prestige to weave his own path - with the seriousness of jazz and the soulfulness of soul. THis is his best (and one of his rarest) albums. Who else could cover Eddie Kendricks, Lee Morgan and give Coltrane a run for his money with his version of Favourite Things.

The EthiopianOpen The Gates Of ZionJamaican Art

This 1978 roots reggae LP, containing ten songs, was only released in Jamaica on the GG label, and includes masterpieces like 'Africa Now', 'Wondering', 'Corruption' and 'Wicked Is Down On Me'. The song 'The Gate Of Zion' was a re-make of 'Nuh Follow Babylon' from the previous released 'Slave Call' album. A former Studio One classic 'I'm Gonna Take Over Now' was included re-titled as 'I'm Gonna Take It Over' besides an updated version of Sir J.J. hit 'Selah'. After 41 years and through much positive energy and efforts, the Dutch Jamaican Art label presents 'Open The Gate Of Zion' LP again for a broader public. Besides all ten songs, carefully transferred from the original two-track master tapes, it also has new art-work/front cover, a gatefold sleeve and a bonustrack. The beautiful 'Rastaman Song' was previously released only on a limited run of a 12-inch record (GG label, Jamaica, 1980). The special disco-mix that appears here is never issued on vinyl before. It's a comforting thought that we still can enjoy the music of a true Jamaican hero, mr. Leonard 'The Ethiopian' Dillon.
