• 1. Control A
      • 2. Control B

Conrad Schnitzler created Control during a particularly fertile period, working closely with Peter Baumann, formerly of Tangerine Dream, to access new electronic instruments and studio tools. True to form, he used these technologies not as novelties but as extensions of his experimental instincts, shaping sound with precision and purpose.

Originally released in 1981 on the DYS label, Control presents thirteen pieces that run continuously across two sides titled ‘Control A’ and ‘Control B’. Many tracks fade in or out, suggesting Schnitzler was either sculpting material from longer recordings or trimming new work into concise forms. The result is a series of compact sketches—most around three minutes—that still feel fully defined.

The album spans several approaches: tracks like 5 and 9 show Schnitzler’s classic cascades of shifting electronic particles, while pieces such as 1, 8, 11, and 12 hint at a rare flirtation with traditional harmony, folded neatly into his own sonic language. Throughout, his curiosity and momentum remain constant. Control captures an artist in motion, charting new terrain without ever losing sight of his overarching vision.
