Leeds-born, London-rooted collective Nubiyan Twist have spent more than a decade conjuring up one of the UK's most open musical ecosystems that folds jazz improvisation into afrobeat drive and hip-hop cadence with a looseness that doesn't slip into slackness. Their line-up shifts often, but always around producer and bandleader Tom Excell, who treats collaboration as a kind of social circuitry. The arrival of vocalist Eniola adds a new melodic centre, with her voice threading through arrangements that lean into warmth without smoothing away the grit. 'Chasing Shadows' glows under Fatoumata Diawara's lines, bright horns framing the song's quickening pulse, while 'Red Herring' brings Bootie Brown into a rolling half-shuffle. 'Threads' finds Patrice Rushen easing soft piano into the group's rhythmic weave, and 'Rhythm Of You' drifts into dubbed-out sway with Joe Armon-Jones. Across the set, the band move between continents and moods with unforced clarity, holding onto the human frictions that keep their sound alive.
