London singer-songwriter Victoria Port again steps out 'Barefoot In The Garden', her latest five-track mini-LP's exploration of alt-soul merging high-style vintage and modern sounds. Recorded partly at Abbey Road Studios and her home studio Candle Shop, there's flourishing vocal legates in the backing and centre stages - doubled, tripled, quadrupled to high-soul effect - plus strutting guitar and contributions from Hemai and JNR Williams. Building on her debut EP Did It Again and her work as one half of electronic-soul duo Anushka, Victoria blends British soul traditions with US influences like Minnie Riperton, Gladys Knight and Nina Simone; it most resounds on the mid-noon chart rouser 'What We Become' and the booming widescreen title ballad.
