French funk collective Jeroboam have earned a fearsome reputation for their inspired live performances, though their revivalist boogie style singles on Danilo Plessow and Bobby van Putten's Space Grapes label are almost as expressive. Further supporting evidence arrives via this predictably fine two-tracker, which marks their first 12" on Space Grapes. 'Night Away' kicks things off in fine fashion, with the collective adding hazy horns, dewy-eyed group harmony vocals, jazzy guitar licks, Clavinet riffs and squiggly electrofunk synth sounds to a languid, mid-tempo disco-boogie groove. The 'long lost 1980s gem' vibe is even stronger on 'Dive Into Darkness', a deep and cosmic workout reminiscent of some of Earth, Wind and Fire's most emotive and tactile moments.
