Recommended! New album from Andy Stott, a follow-up to his pair of acclaimed 2011 releases “Passed Me By” and “We Stay Together”.
"Numb" kicks off the album with ethereal, whispered Sade-like sweet vocals and a thumping, slightly off kilter, Theo Parrish esque deep thumping beat. "Lost" follows on in a more menancing tone - pitch-bent chorals, and a slo-mo beat that almost sounds like it has imprisoned funk. A long beatless intro on "Sleepless", teasing out kick drum some two mins into the track - pure rhythm here. Actually this whole album is excellent, every track is packed full of emotion, teetering on disturbing and exhilirating. Essential!
