As Tresor marks 35 years, it circles back to one of Detroit's most principled collectives with Scan 7's 1999 album Resurfaced. 303s from the 313: theirs was one of many crews to favour discipline over detail-bogging, letting tension accrue over the long but still heavy haul. 'Random Soul' opens in low gear before locking into a measured, rolling stride; 'Black Wall' and 'Unit Seven' operate with similar restraint, while 'Invisible Invasion' and 'Twisted Groov' infect the beats with increasingly bio-resistant strains of beat. Remastered from the original DATs, the reissue restores the album's fastidious floorplan.
