Psychedelic groove meets Middle Eastern flavours on the debut release from New Zealand producer ZHERAV in the latest in this Middle Eastern Grooves series. Built from programmed drums, live guitar and layered synth work, both tracks balance hypnosis via rhythm with hazy, cinematic textures. 'Naja' coils around an ominous bassline and snapping percussion with improvised guitar lines circling the groove. On the flip, 'Bazaar' moves at a brisker pace, introducing flute phrases and lively percussion before settling into a pulsating rhythm. These will work in the club, sure, but also come packed with adventurous instrumental detail.
