It was produced by Conny Plank and featured the 'classic' Guru Guru line- up of Ax Genrich (guitar), Uli Trepte (bass) and Mani Neumeier (drums, vocals).

Kanguru is basically made up of the same ingredients as its two predecessors Ufo and Hinten, which were released on Rolf Kaiser's Ohr label in 1970 and 1971. This is pure Krautrock, the album contains only 4 tracks, all between 10 and 15 minutes long.

But the band moves away from the disorganized chaos of the previous two albums and gives the songs more structure, reducing the amount of heaviness. At the same time, the humorous component increases, see for example Mani Neumeier's spoken word in the introduction of Immer lustig. In short, Kanguru is a Krautrock gem.
