This is a rather unusual artefact of experimental sound and a first reissue of Brion Gysin's cult recordings from the 1980s and early 90s, all produced by Ramuntcho Matta. At the centre lies 'Dreamachine', a sprawling 32-minute piece that translates the hallucinatory effect of Gysin's famous light device into sound and is guided by slow Afrobeat rhythms and minimalist repetition. The result drifts between hypnotic grooves and meditative electronics. On the flip, 'The Door' introduces saxophonist Steve Lacy and he brings searching lines, adding an expressive counter to the atmosphere. Newly remastered for this edition, it's a reminder of Gysin's lasting influence.
