Visioneers, the jazz-zoned hip-hop outing led by Marc Mac of 4hero, marks the 20th anniversary of Dirty Old Hip Hop with a long-awaited re-press. First released in 2006 and nominated for a Worldwide Award, it offered a clever diggers' twist: Mac and collaborators Luke Parkhouse and Somatik reconstructed their favourite breaks and grooves live (though keeping them recognisable) paying reconstructive homage to those original records that hip-hop producers once mined wantonly. Tracks like 'Replay', 'Runnin'' and 'Ike's Mood' blend boom bap rhythm with warm jazz instrumentation, while guest MCs Voice and Capitol A add a lighter lyrical touch; but two decades on, Dirty Old Hip Hop is still a loving, postmodern bop.
