UNBELIEVEABLE!
Not every day you get a previously unknown, unreleased 1966 album from Yusef Lateef! This is incredible - Lateef at the height of his creative powers, signed to Impulse Records alongside John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones etc as part of the radical New Thing movement of radical and spiritual jazz.
The previous year Lateef had recorded another live album Live at Peps, featuring the seminal jazz dance modal tune Brother John (which appears on Club Date).
Not only is the music the DEEPEST and most SPIRITUAL jazz we think ever performed at Ronnie Scotts, it is also one of the best live recordings that we have ever heard - fantastically mastered. Check the fantastic eastern flavours on tracks like "angel Eyes' and 'Song of Delilah' or the Roland Kirk-esque 'Last Night Blues'.
This really is an amazing, understated deep album - we think every home should have one!
