By the later half of the 70s, when roots, DJ and dub dominated the Jamaican music landscape, few producers could equal the creative success of Joe Gibbs.
Assisted by the gifted sound engineer Errol Thompson, Gibbs issued many of the most popular and influential recordings of the period, performed by some of the island’s most celebrated artists.
During this time, he released two similarly branded vinyl collections, each comprising ten of the finest roots and DJ sounds from the period: ‘United Dreadlocks’, Volumes 1 and 2.
These hugely popular long-players provide the focus of this two CD collection, with their respective track listings bolstered by the cream of the producer’s output from 1976 to 1977.
Featuring numerous tracks new to CD, the compilation superbly demonstrates why Gibbs is so highly regarded among fans of the roots reggae sound.
