Tom Jenkinson would go by his own name in Essex before knocking down many a North London night under the Squarepusher alias. 'Stereotype' was his second EP after the formative 'Colt', originally emerging as a fast, hour-long cassetteful of six acid-attacked breaks burners. Recorded long before his 1996 Rephlex debut Feed Me Weird Things, 'Stereotype' brings a snapshot of Tom Jenkinson honing his breakbeat, acid, and drum & bass sensibilities before the wider world knew him; 'O'Brien' especially slaps as a drill-and-dancehall crawl of choice; no wonder it was such a favourite, as few others in Jenkinson's had *gone there* rhythmically at the time.
