Originally released in 2005, Shinola Vol 1 is collection of rarities from the brothers Ween. As is somewhat typical in Ween world, there isn't and probably won't ever be a Vol 2. The songs that populate the album come from across the band's career, with 'Tastes Good on th' Bun' dating back to the Tascam-recording, Scotchguard-huffing days of The Pod (1990). The Mollusk era is represented by 'Did You See Me' and there are later cuts too, such as Crater Of The Sac's 'Monique The Freak'. The result is an album that has little in the way of coherence, but that doesn't really matter when it comes to Ween. Genre hopping and incoherence have always been some of the band's finest attributes, along with their off-kilter humour. There's plenty of the band's unique approach in abundance here. Whether it's the Prince parody 'Monique The Freak', the daft novelty of 'Boys Club', or the squelching filth of 'Big Fat Fuck' - fans of the irreverent will find a lot to keep them occupied and ultimately; entertained.
