John Carroll Kirby's relationship with the piano has always felt deeper than that of mere accompaniment, the Los Angeles composer and producer using its melodic possibilities as the foundation for much of the increasingly colourful music that followed. This collection gathers fourteen pieces written between 2016 and 2026, many composed while travelling between cities including Tokyo, Rome, London and rural New Zealand, with Kirby taking advantage of any piano that happened to be within reach. The likes of 'MS4', 'Bendable Pine' and 'Rain Walking' often carry the spontaneous feel of ideas etched down in one go. But the music is far from sketch-like, carrying a depth and permanence that belies its spontaneous origins.
