    Reggae George‎Three Wicked MenTRS

'Three Wicked Men' sung by Reggae George (real name George Davey). Originally released in 1981 and issued on Tuff Gong's imprint, it has been re-released a handful of times over the decades (sadly many illegitimately with atrocious quality). So TRS are very proud to announce the cleanest and sonically best sounding reissue to date directly lifted from the source. What is more special is they have included a never before heard mix to the menu. Long story short, in 1981 French Canadian Disco Pop legend Boule Noire (real name Georges Thurston) was in Jamaica and linked up with producer Michael Gardine (aka King Kush / Kush Dan I) who supplied Boule Noire with bags full of instrumentals, including the 'Three Wicked Men' riddim. Later many of these recordings surfaced as singles in Canada on the Zion Yant imprint and also on Boule Noire's LP titled "Reggae" which was a fully French sung album over Jamaican riddims but with a different commercial twist. Working alongside Kush Dan I it was infact his vision for nearly 40 years to stitch together the 'Three Wicked Men' instrumental with Boule Noire's album version. So here it is, presented on a gorgeous 10".

    Steve BeckerWarTRS

Once again featuring the slick production of Leroy “Badness” Pennicott with another forgotten track this time by Steve Becker titled “War”. In the early 80’s Leroy Pennicott was one of the back-bone members for Augustus Pablo’s Rockers All-Stars playing rhythm guitar and bass on hundreds of recordings, and even touring extensively around the globe. He was also an instrumental force behind many of the early 80’s High Times recordings with Earl Chinna Smith. Always humble and preferring to stay out of the lime light, the multi-skilled Pennicott under the guidance of Pablo and Chinna lead a natural progression to producing. Pennicott first teamed up with long time friend Steve Becker, who go back from youth days in the Greenwich Farm community of Kingston. At the time due to a circumstance, Pennicott asked former band mate Pablo if his first production could be released under the Rockers imprint, to which Pablo happily agreed and helped finance the project. As Pennicott recalls “War” was written as a response and social commentary about the strife and dangers of their surroundings, and being just as relevant if not more in 2018.

    Roots UprisingFamily TreeTRS

Presenting this little forgotten pearl by Roots Uprising recorded in Miami, Florida in 1979. Led here by the multi-skilled musician, singer and producer Ted Greaves aka Asha-T (son of legendary and popular Teddy Greaves, a West Indies cabaret entertainer). Ted Jr was born in Jamaica to a very diverse musical family and first cut his teeth singing with his father at hotel resorts in Montego Bay and on luxury cruise ships for tourists with his siblings. During the mid 60s, the Greaves family moved to the Bahamas to further Teddy Senior’s career, and not long after Asha-T accompanied by his brothers decided to migrate to Miami. After years rehearsing in the studio and with the help of his brothers (Donald and Errol Greaves who played on many important Soul Syndicate records) the Roots Uprising outfit was ultimately formed. “Family Tree” was originally released in the US only and on the murky Alwa label on both 7″ and 12″, and as with so many obscure releases of the day, proper dues were never rewarded.

Both rhythms feature on the “Dubbing In The Frontyard” album, The LP cuts were mixed by Prince Jammy at King Tubby’s Studio, but the remixes on this release come from Paolo Baldini, whose ‘Dubfiles’ projects at his Alambic studio has caught the mood of younger reggae aficionados as well as the more traditional reggae crowd.

ONE OF THE TUFFEST PHILIP FRASER TITLES EVER, FINALLY GETS A LONG AWAITED RELEASE AND THIS ALSO HAPPENS TO BE THE FIRST 10 INCH VINYL FOR ARCHIVE RECORDINGS' BLACK LABEL- A WELCOMED INTRODUCTION AND A ROCK SOLID ROOTS TITLE TO KICKSTART THINGS.
THE AFRICAN LIBERATION MASTER TAPE WAS MISPLACED AND EVENTUALLY UNEARTHED AFTER 35 YEARS BY THE LATE GREAT LINCOLN 'SUGAR' MINOTT!!!!
A MUCH IN DEMAND TRACK MADE FAMOUS BY MICHAEL 'CHABBA YOUTH' GORDON'S STEREOGRAPH SOUND SYSTEM OUT OF BRIXTON, SOUTH LONDON, UK CIRCA 1980/81.
THIS TRACK WAS ONE OF STEREOGRAPH'S ACE-CARD DUB PLATES WHENEVER THEY WERE CLASHING WITH A RIVAL SOUND. MANY SOUND SYSTEMS HAD TROUBLE REPLYING, WITH AN EQUALLY SUITED TUNE ESPECIALLY AS THIS WAS A FIRM FAVOURITE AMONGST STEREOGRAPH FANS WHO REGULARLY REQUESTED A REPLAY (REWIND) OF SAID TRACK.
THESE WERE THE DAYS WHEN SOUND SYSTEM SPECIALS WERE NON-EXISTENT AND THE DUB PLATE BUSINESS WAS LESS COMMERCIALISED.
TOP TRACKS WERE SOURCED BASED ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE SOUND AND A PARTICULAR PRODUCER/S. THE OPERATOR (SELECTOR) HAD TO KNOW THEIR DUB BOX WHENEVER THE DANCE BECAME TENSE AS ALL PLASTIC (VINYL) HAD TO BE LOCKED AWAY.
STRICTLY 'RUB A DUB' HAD TO BE PLAYED WHICH WAS THE ORDER AS THE EXCLUSIVE TRACKS WERE INTRODUCED TO THE CROWD. THIS TUNE RANKS AS ONE OF THOSE TOP NOTCH SELECTIONS.
VOICED AT CHANNEL ONE STUDIO IN KINGSTON, JAMAICA AND ENGINEERED BY MIXING SUPREMO BARNABAS. PRODUCED BY KENNEDY JONES (BROTHER OF SUGAR MINOTT) AND PHILIP FRASER.
