    John Coltrane Live At Birdland

      • 2. I Want To Talk About You
      • 3. The Promise
      • 4. Alabama
      • 5. Your Lady

Absolutely definitive Coltrane release ushering in the new sound of radical deepness at the start of the 1960s.

'Alabama' was written and performed shortly after the death of four children in a racist bombing of a church in Alabama. Coltrane wrote the song using the intonation and flow of the preacher at the funeral. It is a very, very profound piece of music.

The album starts with a ehavyweight version of Afro-Blue and continues in the same vein.

This album is ESSENTIAL to an understanding of John Coltrane.
