Apart from Bob Marley, there are few Reggae figures known to the general public. Horace Andy is one of them. His long collaboration with Massive Attack has given international recognition to the falsetto voice of this Jamaican artist.
He began his career in Kingston at the end of the 60s, but it was in the early 70s that he found success and signed his hit "Skylarking", which has since become a real signature. He then collaborated with many Jamaican producers, such as Bunny Lee and Tappa Zukie, respectively mentor and brother of Rodguel Blackbeard Sinclair. It is through them that the two men meet.
Strickly Ranking retraces through 12 titles, rare or even unreleased, this fruitful collaboration. It is the golden age of roots reggae and Blackbeard surrounds himself with the best musicians, with Robbie Shakespear on bass or Santa Davis on drums, and signs with the help of King Tubby one of his best achievements. Together, they will offer Horace Andy a setting on which his inimitable voice will flourish, on 11 original compositions and a cover of Bob Marley's famous "Natural Mystic".
The best of reggae, with a warm, organic sound with a bewitching pulse. All in a neat artwork, with superb photos by Beth Lesser (photographer who witnessed this crucial period).
“A rare album, produced in the golden age of reggae, with the contribution of King Tubby.
