While Brian Eno has been the subject of documentary films before, never has his career been displayed on the scale of Gary Hustwit’s 2024 film Eno, an experimental documentary structured by generative AI. Like shuffling a deck of cards, no two viewings show the scenes in the same order; naturally, Eno’s soundtrack matches this ephemeral mood, with unreleased tracks like ‘Lighthouse #429’ forming an impressionist collage of drum splashes and cymbal crashes, a sharp edged fervour riding through looming brass tones. Elsewhere, classics old and new are stitched throughout (the blissful stutters of his Fred again.. collab ‘Cmon’ deserves a shout).
