Fantastic new album of disco, modern soul and boogie from 1978-82 on Soul Jazz Records.

This album is released to coincide with the massive new 360-page deluxe hardback book Disco – An Encyclopedic Guide To The Cover Art of Disco featuring over 2,000 album cover designs as well as over 700 12” sleeves, including sections on roller disco, disco instruction albums and more. There are also interviews and introductions by Tom Moulton, Nicky Siano, Mel Cheren (West End Records), Ken Cayre (Salsoul), Marvin Schlachter (Prelude) and more. This book is compiled by Disco Patrick and Patrick Vogt, text by Claes Widlund.

This album here is an amazing collection of rare and independent tracks from Disco’s halcyon period – 1978 to 1982 – expertly compiled by Disco Patrick, who also compiled the new deluxe book. Blurring the musical lines between disco, modern soul and boogie this double album features many exclusive and hard to find records from the era.

                      Funk FactoryFunk FactoryBe With Records

An exquisite slice of psychedelic jazz-funk, Funk Factory was criminally overlooked upon release but became a crate-diggers classic over time. The LP is most famous for containing the peerless dusty groove of "Rien Ne Va Plus", heavily lifted by the Beastie Boys for their Paul's Boutique standout "Car Thief". Funk Factory represents so much more than a Dust Brothers sample-source. The entire album represents a space-aged opus, featuring tripped-out keys, tight drums and baked synths; all laced by Urszula Dudziak's ethereal vocals drifting around the exceptional instrumentation.

Long awaited debut album from South London's finest - Yussef Kamaal!

Ever since their 22a Boiler Room show in 2015 there has been big hype around these guys. 'Black Focus' is here, and will only enhance the hype. The album is all about keys and drums, expertly provided by Kamaal Williams (aka Henry Wu) and Yussef Dayes. Together they have created an exquisite blend of modern jazz funk fusion! The 4Hero - esque 'Strings of Light' and Lonnie Liston Smith inspired 'Lowrider' are the one's for us, however it must be said, every tune is a winner!

                      Alessandro AlessandroniAfro DiscotecaFour Flies Records

Alessandro Alessandroni is one of those pioneers, a maestro that built the legend of Italian soundtracks and library music along with Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani and many others. His vault testifies how prolific had been those times, with hundreds of tapes and obscure recordings from that period. Among the many, a dusty tape bearing the hand-written label “Afro Discoteca” captured the attention of Four Flies. This EP contains unreleased music composed and produced by Alessandro Alessandroni in the 70s, taken from a dusty tape found in his vault. Afro Discoteca strikes immediately for its modernity and rich textures, sounding unbelievably contemporary. Highly Recommended!!!

Yusef LateefLive at Ronnie Scott’s, 15th January 1966Gearbox

                      UNBELIEVEABLE!

Not every day you get a previously unknown, unreleased 1966 album from Yusef Lateef! This is incredible - Lateef at the height of his creative powers, signed to Impulse Records alongside John Coltrane, Archie Shepp, McCoy Tyner, Elvin Jones etc as part of the radical New Thing movement of radical and spiritual jazz.

The previous year Lateef had recorded another live album Live at Peps, featuring the seminal jazz dance modal tune Brother John (which appears on Club Date).

Not only is the music the DEEPEST and most SPIRITUAL jazz we think ever performed at Ronnie Scotts, it is also one of the best live recordings that we have ever heard - fantastically mastered. Check the fantastic eastern flavours on tracks like "angel Eyes' and 'Song of Delilah' or the Roland Kirk-esque 'Last Night Blues'.

This really is an amazing, understated deep album - we think every home should have one!

'Sextant' from 1972 was recorded just before 'Headhunters', and can be seen in the same vein, but it's more than just an introduction to a masterpiece. It features a kind of post-modal, free impressionism while gracing the edges of funk. Three long instrumental tracks explore how far minimalism in jazz can go.
