AMAZING unearthered Indian proto-techno treasure from 1982!!!
Indian proto-techno? I hear you scoff, but 'Ten Ragas To A Disco' is one of the most interesting and truly fascinating records to have landed at SOTU. This fantastic album by Charanjit Singh was performed on the early synths the Roland TB-303 and TR-808, that would later define Acid House. The album sounds light years ahead of its time with its repetitive beats and hypnotic electronic melodies. Its maker, Bollywood session musician Charanjit Singh, set out to translate ancient Indian classical Ragas to the modern synthesizer and in doing so seems to have invented House music along the way. Some believe this an elaborate hoax but we assure you this was music was made long before the legendary Virgo s 'Go Wild With Acid' and Phuture's 'Rhythm Tracks'. These 10 tracks make a consistent listen from A to Z. Its restrained minimalism and lack of cheesiness makes it incredibly contemporary, sounding animated, fluid and unabashedly alive. An unbelievably brilliant find by Bombay Connection - Highly Recommended!
