Turrentine recorded the album together with jazz/bebop vibraphonist Milt Jackson and is produced by CTI founder Creed Taylor. For the recordings of Cherry, Turrentine and Jackson were accompanied by pianist Bob James, guitarist Cornell Dupree, bassist Ron Carter and Bill Cobham on drums.
With the classic Weldon Irvine breaks tune "Sister Sanctified" (Irvine also did the arrangements).
