Rotterdam's Bouman Records - a label masterminded by one of the city's premiere deep house lovers, Jurgen Bourman - is quite selective about what it releases on wax, meaning every 12-inch is worth checking. The latest - the fourth in total - comes courtesy of exiled Mancunian Matthew Jesus AKA Black Eyes, a producer famed for developing a Detroit-influenced deep house sound he calls "Hydro-trip".
That sound - all machine soul, thickset grooves and intergalactic intent - can be heard throughout the four tracks on show, from the immersive, stargazing shuffle of opener 'Scub' and the ultra-deep hypnotism of 'Pressure From The Deep', where heady hand percussion patterns catch the ear, to the jazzier dreaminess of early morning roller 'Who's In The Deep End' and the warming delight of 'Atlantic Philosophy'.
