Miles began his 30 year run at Columbia records with this album, a bop masterpiece. The individual strengths of each player that made this group so good are showcased on this recording. The beautiful tone of Miles's trumpet being played through a harmon mute directly into the microphone, inventive solos from John Coltrane, steady rhythm work from Philly Joe Jones and Paul Chambers, and laid back playing from Red Garland on piano.
