An amazing insight into a pivotal period in the development of one of the true masters of 20th Century music! This album contains the first recording of John Coltane's 'Meditations' suite of spiritual jazz. recorded in the aftermath of the seminal 'A Love Supreme'. Coltrane's music and approach was developing so rapidly at this juncture that before the album coud be released he had taken his group back into the studio to record a completely different version! The more 'out there' second version was released as 'Meditations', leaving this album (closer in sound to 'A Love Supreme') to be post-humously released as 'First Meditations'. We can't recommend this enough! Beautiful, beautiful music! Don't be put off by the (not very good) cover!
