A Tribute To JACKIE MITTOO - Guiding light of the SELECTION TRAIN Label! We present a re-imagining of the legendary unreleased dubplate of the same name: built by the Master Maestro Jackie Mittoo himself and including vocals from Musical Youth tailored to the militant UK style of the mid-80's era, The original slice of rootical rebellion was made famous on the UK roots scene by the mighty JAH SHAKA soundsystem among others and still haunts the selectors and soundsystems of today's roots revival scene.
That now-legendary dubplate mix inspired this modern update from the Selection Train crew, with the timely pleas of the "Children Of The World" represented by the voices of resident producer Perilous' God-daughter MAYA CAMPBELL and best friend LAUREN LEIVO (at only 8 years young!) and the militant "Mash Down" lyric taken up by London DJ MARK PROFESSOR in fine style.
As with the original dub, the bassline is inspired by Mittoo's STUDIO ONE masterpiece "Wall Street", while producer and rhythm builder JERRY PERILOUS also slips in the deadly rhodes piano hook from another Brentford Road Mittoo powerplay "After Christmas" in to the mix. The musicians include INYAKI YARRITU of influential outfit BASQUE DUB FOUNDATION who provides the live bassline and organ "bubble" and CHARLIE NIGHTDOCTOR - founding member of the same NIGHTDOCTOR who released the seminal "menelik" uk 12" in 1981, here providing inspired guitar improvisations.
The second track on the 12" "Frontline Serenade" is a searing alto and tenor saxophone workout from the acclaimed jazz saxophonist and longtime roots afficianado NAT BIRCHALL, blowing up a dubwise storm of an instrumental cut.
Roots scene stalwart NICK MANASSEH digs deep at the mixing board providing tight, militant mixes which extend in to two further raucous dub mixes of the rhythm on the flip side; "Dubism" (Vocal Dub) and "Dub The Frontline" (Instrumental Dub).
