    • 2. What A Situation

Discover a hidden treasure with this much sought-after late 60s record by the vocal Rock Steady group: The Rulers.

The group, only active from 1966-1969, now re-emerged on Skank & Groove, for the first time ever, with a reissue of this iconic 7" vinyl, marking its debut since its original release in 1969.

    A-Side: "Got To Be Free"

A heartfelt message of universal love asking, "Why Can't We Be Free to Love Each Other?" This track is celebrated as The Rulers' very last song before their mysterious disappearance from the music scene.

    B-Side: "What a Situation"

Embracing the raw rudeboy spirit, this song delivers a powerful narrative of judgment and prophecy against the perpetrators of "rude boy" activities.

Produced by the esteemed Carl Johnson of JJ Records, known for The Ethiopians' hit tune "Everything Crash". His studio band, The Carib Beat, infused a distinctive rough rock steady sound that perfectly complemented The Rulers' vocals. Tragically, in 1972, Carl Johnson was shot to death at his label shop on Orange Street in Kingston.

This record, has been out of print for decades, making it a rare find for collectors and reggae enthusiasts alike.
