LAST COPIES..
The second release on Rhythm Doctor's 'Almost Unknown' label is a limited edition 3 track 12'' ep featuring music by Armenian, Georgian and Soviet musicians recorded between 1974 and 1979 in the USSR.
Side A is taken up by a beautiful and empathic 6 minute 24 second long interpretation of Fela Kuti's 'Egbe Mi O'. Conducted and arranged by Georgian guitarist and vocalist, Robert Bardzimashvili. It's extraordinary how Fela's music was known and loved behind 'the Iron Curtain' in 1979!
On the flip there are 2 killer future jazz dance classics. First up features the amazing scat vocalese of Armenian, Tatevik Organesyan in an uptempo big band setting under the leadership of fellow Armenian, Konstantin Orbelyan.
The finale is a storming piece of brass fueled jazz funk from Ensemble Melodija conducted by a giant of Armenian/Soviet jazz, saxophonist Georgiy Garanian. The e.p. is a hand numbered edition of 250, released on vinyl only.
