Another killer compilation of 60's and 70's Biguine, Afro & Latin sounds from the French Caribbean on the brilliant Soundway label!

You may be familiar with Soundway's previous amazing Nigerian-focused compilations showcasing homegrown disco, rock and boogie sounds of the mid to late 1970s Lagos nightclub scene as well as their explosive latin compilations 'Panama' and 'Colombia'! Soundway live up to their brilliant reputation with Tumbele and do not disappoint, turning their attention to the overlooked and forgotten music from the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, French departments in the Caribbean and centres of creole culture!

The album focuses on the rich musical period 1963-1974, on both islands, a time when Haitan compas, Congolese rumba and cuban guaguanco combined with the local biguine style to create the sound of tumbele, a uniquely French antillean style that is partly a product of the colonial past of the islands, in their position in the multi-cultural, multi-lingual "sixth continent' of the Carribbean.

This is a fantastic upbeat album where swaying biguines, meet heavy gwo ka drums and creole rhythms collide with the sounds of carnival. Haitan, Congolese and Puerto Rican influences are added to the pot in a percussive celebration of Afro-antillean spirit!
