Points On A Space Age The Sun Ra Arkestra Under The Direction Of Marshall Allen

    Music Video Distribution

Mix of old original footage of Sun Ra (films made in Egypt that the Arkestra used to use as backdrops at their gigs), Space landings footage and new footage of the continuing Arkestra with lots of informal interviews.

Short Documentary looking at the work of experimental jazz band the Arkestra, which was founded in the mid-1950s by musician, philosopher, and spiritualist Sun Ra. The musicians in the band were more than simply band members: they were also disciples, students and companions to their guru leader. All band members were required to learn the philosophy of Ra, and many of them lived with him until he 'left the planet' in 1993.

"Points On A Space Age" explores the recent activity of the remaining members of the Arkestra, now under the direction of Marshall Allen, who spent forty years with Sun Ra and now continues to recruit younger members into the Sun Ra lifestyle which is a philosophy committed to human development through the discipline of music and spirituality.
