Formed in Dundee by Billy MacKenzie and Alan Rankine in 1976, The Associates were one of the UK’s most playfully subversive post punk/pop outfits, ‘Party Fears Two’ was the first single from their second studio album Sulk (1982), and was their biggest hit, making it to #9 in the UK chart. The B side ‘Australia’ is the vinyl debut of a version of the song from a session the band did with producer John Leckie (Stone Roses, Radiohead). ‘Party Fears Two’ is re-mastered from ¼” tape, and like the rest of BMG’s Associates reissue series, was supervised by Associate’s bass player Michael Dempsey This coloured (Green) vinyl RSD single (limited to 500) kicks off BMG’s Associates reissue series, and expanded, remastered editions of their albums The Affectionate Punch (2 CD), Fourth Drawer Down (CD) and Sulk (2 CD and vinyl) will be released in May ‘16.
