    Locked-away (literally), privately-pressed free-jazz obscurity reissued by Jazzman!

    The 511 Jazz Ensemble was made up entirely of serving prisoners in the Ohio State Penitentiary. Founded in 1971 by a creative, musical group of prisoners.  "Hard Luck Soul" is the latest in Jazzman's "Holy Grail" series -a  master class in what can be achieved in the most trying of circumstances.  This was the only album recorded by the inmates, and comprises of four long tracks, with a live, one-take feel, in a similar vein to PE Hewitt and Phil Cohran.
