In October of 1985 Miles Davis began recording the album 'Rubberband' in Los Angeles at Ameraycan Studios with producers Randy Hall and Zane Giles. The musical direction Davis was taking during the sessions marked a radical departure, with the inclusion of funk and soul grooves; with plans to feature guest vocalists Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan. Eventually, the album was shelved and Davis went on to record Tutu, leaving the Rubberband songs unheard and untouched for over 30 years...

Classic super-funky early seventies jazz fusion album from Miles Davis!

The Bitches Brew album is famous for being Miles Davis' radical departure from his 1960s style post-bop into the realms of jazz-funk-rock fusion, but its the On the Corner album that far better exemplifies the direction he was taking towards rhythmic, layered, funky longform improvisations!

This classic album features a host of young musicians including Carlos Garnett, Michael Henderson, Al Foster, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, Dave Liebman, and Jack De Johnette!

Back in 1949/50, Miles Davis and eight friends recorded 3 sessions. The results were released as singles, then collected together and released in 1957 as `Birth Of The Cool' under the name of Miles Davis. But the other names in the group should not be overlooked, they read like a who's who of 50's and 60's cool and freeform jazz, with people like Gerry Mulligan, Max Roach and Gil Evans all making important contributions.

Absolute classic album from Miles Davis' 'second classic quintet' with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter and Tony Williams...superb!

By 1967 Miles Davis and his group were at the height of their creative powers: the group had been together for several years at this point, just before the introduction of electronic elements, and were pushing the boundaries of the hard bop style they had perfected to its absolute limits. Neferetiti was the fourth studio album they recorded together and we think it's their best!

Put simply, any fan of 1960s modal jazz needs this album!

The beautiful tone of Miles's trumpet being played through a harmon mute directly into the microphone, inventive solos from John Coltrane, steady rhythm work from Philly Joe Jones and Paul Chambers, and laid back playing from Red Garland on piano.

Highlights of the session include dedications to John Coltrane (“Mode to John”) and Thelonious Monk (“The High Priest”) as well as the stunning ballad “All My Yesterdays.”

Turrentine and McCann are joined by bassist Herbie Lewis (a member of McCann’s group at the time) and drummer Otis Candy Finch. Stand out tracks include 'Smile, Stacey', the deep blue groove of 'Soft Pedal Blues' and the in-the-pocket soul of 'Light Blue'.
