Songs you’ll never forget, the film you’ve never seen and a story that’s never been heard. In 1967, in the wake of the extraordinary impact of the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album and the Our World satellite broadcast of All You Need Is Love, The Beatles devised, wrote and directed their third film, Magical Mystery Tour, a dreamlike story of a coach day trip to the seaside. Apple Films have fully restored the long out-of-print, classic feature film for October 8th release worldwide on DVD with a remixed soundtrack (5.1 and stereo) and special features.

The restoration of Magical Mystery Tour has been overseen by Paul Rutan Jr. of Eque Inc., the same company that handled the much acclaimed restoration of Yellow Submarine. The soundtrack work was done at Abbey Road Studios by Giles Martin and Sam Okell.

The DVD/Blu-ray contains over 50 minutes of special features, packed with unseen footage. There are newly-filmed interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and other members of the film’s cast and crew, as well as a director’s audio commentary recorded by Paul.

In September 1967, The Beatles loaded a film crew onto a bus along with friends, family and cast and headed west on the A30 out of London to make their third film, this time conceived and directed by The Beatles themselves.

“Paul said ‘Look I’ve got this idea’ and we said ‘great!’ and all he had was this circle and a little dot on the top – that’s where we started,” explains Ringo. “It wasn’t the kind of thing where you could say ‘ladies and gentlemen, what you are about to see is the product of our imaginations and believe me, at this point they are quite vivid,’” says Paul. The film follows a loose narrative and showcased six new songs: “Magical Mystery Tour,” “The Fool On The Hill,” “I Am The Walrus,” “Flying,” “Blue Jay Way,” and “Your Mother Should Know.”

Magical Mystery Tour features a fabulous supporting cast of character actors and performers, including Ivor Cutler, Victor Spinetti, Jessie Robins, Nat Jackley, Derek Royle, and the inimitable Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Nu Yorica ! Culture Clash in New York CitySoul Jazz Records

This is the 20th anniversary expanded edition of one of Soul Jazz Records earliest definitive releases: ‘Nu Yorica : Culture Clash In New York City – Experiments in Latin Music 1970-77’, a stunning and ground-breaking collection of music bringing together Latin, Soul, Jazz, Funk and more from the melting pot of New York City in the 1970s.

Out-of-print for more than ten years this new edition has been fully digitally remastered with new tracks, additional photography and is released as a deluxe 2CD pack + large outsize booklet, as well as a new edition of two super-loud super-heavy separate volumes of double vinyl. The album is also available for the first time as a worldwide digital release.

Nu Yorica! is one of Soul Jazz Records most critically acclaimed albums of all time.

The album features seminal Latin artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Joe Bataan, Machito, Ocho, Grupo Folklorico, Cortijo, Ricardo Marrero, Cachao and many more.

"Latin music never sounded so good. Ever.

Some compilations are so influential and universally loved that they become classic albums in their own right – Harry Smith’s Anthology Of American Folk Music, for example. And just as Smith cemented forever the underground sound of the US between the wars, so did the then young Soul Jazz imprint immortalise the Latin music emerging from 70s New York with Nu Yorica!, originally released 20 years ago." Record Collector

Elis ReginaSamba, Eu Canto Assim !Universal Sound

              Soul Jazz Original Brazil Classics:

In 1965, Elis Regina dominated the world of Brazilian music. Riding high on her success, the powerfully-voiced singer was the star of her own television show (O Fino da Bossa), winner of the first national broadcast musical competition (for TV Excelsior) and a stunning live performer on stage.

Having emerged out of the Bossa Nova wave of the early 1960s, Elis Regina's stunning theatrical mixture of boss nova, samba, jazz and other music styles placed her at the top of her profession and her unique style effectively launched MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira), the new post-bossa nova modern musical movement in Brazil that would reign supreme for the next 20 years, as singers such as Gal Costa, Caetano Veloso, Jorge Ben, Chico Buarque and others embraced this new style.

Artistically Elis Regina surrounded herself with only the finest songwriters and musicians such as Edu Lobo, Carlos Lyra, Marcos Valle, Vinicius de Moraes, Baden Powell.

Whilst her music was apolitical, her criticism of the military dictatorship ( from a coup in 1964), led to persecution by the state, at one point the authorities forcing her to sing the Brazilian national anthem at a stadium concert, under threat of her family's safety.

Elis was married twice, first to boss nova songwriter Ronaldo Boscoli and secondly to the musician Cesar Mariano. She tragically died in 1986, aged 36.

Samba, Eu Canto Assim is one of Elis Regina's definitive albums recorded at the height of her career and long regarded as a classic release in Brazil. This is a bespoke high quality box-edition hardback-cased card CD edition of this seminal album with exact-reproduction artwork from the original album.
