Born in Cayenne, French Guiana, for much of his career, Salvador was known for his jazzy guitar work, comic talents, novelty songs, and a distinct Brazilian influence in his brand of chanson. A star in France since the end of World War II, he taped several songs written by Boris Vian with Quincy Jones as arranger, and is known to have recorded the first French rock and roll songs in 1957. Some of his collaborations with Vian are included on this release, as well as his French version of Quincy Jones’ “Midnight Sun”, retitled “Soleil de minuit”. Eleven further tracks from the same period, including several other Henri Salvador-Boris Vian collaborations, plus the hits “Dans mon île” (which inspired Antonio Carlos Jobim to create Bossa Nova), and “L’abeille et le papillon,” have been added as a bonus. Also includes the album 'Succes' and 10 bonus tracks.
