Brilliant debut release from New York based Californian jazz vocalist Gregory Porter. Echoes of Donny Hathaway and Oscar Brown Jnr combined with Porter's unique vocal phrasing make this a standout release. Featuring the veteran alto saxophonist James Spaulding on some tracks, check out the anthemic 1960 What? which has received massive props from Gilles Peterson etc culminating in an impromptu live rendition at the Dingwalls reunion at the end of last year.

    Highly recommended!
