This is the darkest we've heard Florence Welch sound: "But look at me run myself ragged," she bellows on 'Everybody Scream'. "Blood on the stage/But how can I leave you when you're screaming my name?" The new direction comes as Welch opted to co-write with Idles guitarist Mark Bow and Mitski, which has turned out to be a remarkable meeting of minds. As an album this is going to open her music up to a whole host of music fans who will have previously dismissed her music because they prefer things to be darker and stormier in atmosphere. If this is Florence Welch's goth era, it suits her. Let's hope there's more to come in the future in this style.
