By the dawn of the 1980s, dancehall dominated the sound of Jamaican music, with a new generation of music makers challenging the authority of the island’s long established record producers.

Among this brash new group of music makers was Nkrumah ‘Jah’ Thomas, a talented young DJ who had first burst onto the reggae scene just a few years before with a number of popular 7”singles produced by some of Kingston’s leading record label owners.

Within a few years of his recording debut, he joined their ranks, launching his own Midnight Rock imprint in 1979, initially using the label to showcase his own recordings before expanding his roster to include a variety of other youthful talents, notably Barrington Levy, Barry Brown, Anthony Johnson and Tristan Palmer.

Over the years that immediately followed, Jah Thomas remained at the top of Jamaica’s music hierarchy, producing and releasing scores of popular recordings by many of the most popular performers.

During this time, he also demonstrated a keen understanding of dub, frequently working in the studio alongside respected dubmaster Overton Brown AKA Scientist to create high quality works, with top session group The Revolutionaries employed on early sessions prior to dancehall’s seminal band, The Roots Radics becoming his regular musicians of choice.

This 3CD collections brings together a trio of dub collections that first saw issue over three decades ago, but which have remained unavailable on any format ever since. With each set comprising superior material from the early 1980s, produced, mixed and performed by some of the greatest exponents of the genre during dancehall era, ‘The Trojan Dub Albums Collection’ is an essential purchase for all those who enjoy only the deepest and heaviest reggae sounds.
