The Topics were a soul vocal quarter from New York, active primarily in the 60s and 70s and starting out first as The Uniteds. Over the years various members came and left, their recording debut single coming in 1962 with “The Girl In My Dreams” concluding with “Women’s Liberation” in 1973. All were with small labels with the exception of the songs on this release both issued back to back by Mercury Records in 1973. “Booking Up Baby” is co-produced by Dennis Williams (O’Jays, Teddy Pendergrass, Jean Carn “My Love Don’t Come Easy”). He also arranged the Van McCoy song “Giving Up”, both sophisticated soul songs highly sought after with an original pressing sold for £850 on Discogs.
