Pianist and composer Sonny Clark only lived for 32 years but more than left his mark on the jazz world in that time, with countless seminal albums such as the perennial favourite Cool Struttin'. This album is one of his lesser known works - it was recorded as part of a trip for Time Records on March 23, 1960. Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones formed the outfit (though they were still also playing with Miles Davies at the time) but there is one solo cut in 'April' as well as other ballads played at an inviting pace. The album shows off why Sonny was such a fine pianist.
